This renovation is a celebration of architectural history, combining the clean lines and simplicity of mid-century design with the sophisticated charm of early 20th-century Italian villas. Through careful attention to detail, thoughtful use of reclaimed materials, and a deep respect for the original building, we have created a home that beautifully bridges the gap between past and present.

This project involved the transformation of a 1950s-built house, reimagining it with the elegance and timelessness of a 1930s Lake Como villa. The goal was to blend the classic charm of a bygone era with the architectural integrity of the original structure. Through a careful reworking of the design, we created a space that pays homage to the past while ensuring modern functionality.

The exterior of the house was re-envisioned with a focus on geometry and simplicity, drawing inspiration from the grand villas of Lake Como. We carefully designed new arches to reflect the sweeping curves of traditional architecture, while the façade’s colors were selected to evoke the soft, weathered tones typical of 1930s Italian lakeside homes. The size and positioning of the windows were meticulously planned, ensuring that each opening frames the view while maintaining a sense of balance and harmony with the surroundings.

To capture the essence of the era, reclaimed materials were predominantly used throughout the renovation. These materials not only add authenticity but also contribute to the creation of the original patina, enhancing the sense of history and continuity within the space. From the weathered stone to reclaimed timber, every material has been carefully chosen to reflect the simplicity and beauty of the period.

The interiors were designed with a strong emphasis on traditional detailing. Classic elements such as painted skirtings, wall tiling, and traditional arches feature prominently throughout, paying tribute to the design language of the era. We sourced reclaimed internal doors that complement the character of the space while maintaining a sense of continuity with the original architecture.
Furniture and lighting were also carefully selected to match the aesthetic, ensuring that every element, from the furnishings to the fixtures, aligns with the refined style of the 1930s. The result is a living space that feels both nostalgic and timeless, exuding warmth, elegance, and a sense of quiet luxury.

At DDSarchitettura, we believe in creating spaces that transcend time, where the past meets the present in a seamless dance of form and function. This renovation captures the soul of a 1930s Lake Como villa, reimagined with careful craftsmanship and reclaimed materials, resulting in a space that feels both timeless and alive—whether occupied or empty.
